ASAP Rocky’s Sundress is an Ethereal Masterpiece
The recent single from ASAP Rocky samples classic Tame Impala to produce a psych rap tour de force.
On Sundress ASAP Rocky has managed to master the art of lucidity, the track flows beautifully across its short run time of just under three minutes. Sundress is held together by the repetitive rhythm section which is sampled from Tame Impala’s Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind?, this combined with the dream like falsetto vocals really pulls you into this state of musical tranquillity. The track takes its only major change when the rap comes in and there is a point where the songs beat takes on a more trap sounding rhythm which strangely contrasts really well with very psychedelic sounding sample.
Sundress is Rocky at his creative best, blending and combining various genres to craft a song that breaks down boundaries whilst managing to be catchy and inventive. The track is a must listen.
