OUT MARCH 31, 2014 ON INSIDEOUT MUSIC
Classic authentic rock meets progressive. Former Porcupine Tree guitarist John Wesley is back with a brand new album that will make rock fans jump in jubilee. Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Jeff Beck are listed as Wesley’s main influences and his most recent work is a clear musical statement of that, while Porcupine Tree atmospheres are to be found across the whole album.
Since the opening title track, you will realise straight away that something very good is going to happen to your ears. From the initial catchy rhythm the song evolves into irresistible Gilmour-style guitar riffs that will remind you why you fell in love with the stringed instrument. The second track, “Any Old Saint”, is a classic that delivers several minutes of pure guitar soloing orgasms you will want to listen/feel again and again. “Disconnect” is a 10-track compact, very well-structured album that never sounds flat or predictable: Wesley delivers ballads that talk authenticity, a quality that is not so easy to find in mainstream today.
The right balance between such ballads – like they don’t do them anymore – and heavy guitars mixed with massive injections of progressive rock, propels “Disconnect” into the orbit of the great classics. So, if you want to lose yourself in an overdose of overwhelming guitar soloing and progressive rock rhythms, this might be your cup of the finest tea.
