EP Review: Better Days by Two Ways Home

[review]

Better Days‘ is the latest EP by Anglo/Austrian folk-rock outfit Two Ways Home, and also my first introduction to their work. If I hadn’t already known that the duo hail from Europe and the UK, I would’ve expected this album to come from straight out of Nashville.
Produced by mixer/producer/engineer MsM (Royksopp, Ed Sheeran, The Saturdays) and recorded at The Doghouse in Henley-on-Thames ‘Better Days’ features an amazing combination of male/female melodies from vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Lewis Fowler and vocalist/autoharp/ukulele specialist Isabella Mariee.
Backed by Chris Brice (Drums, Percussion), Raymond Tognola (Bass) and Adam East (Guitars) the 4 track EP delivers thoughtful folk/country-rock filled with emotion and quality lyrics. The top track is definitely the single ‘Just For Now’. The jangly, upbeat instrumental almost makes you forget the track is actually about something much more deep. I also absolutely love the autoharp at the beginning of ballad ‘Still In Love’ it’s a nice change and not something I’ve heard a lot of in country music recently.
Overall the album is actually pretty catchy and something I’d definitely listen to on my own time. I also like that musically they exist somewhere in-between the more folky sound of ‘classic country’ and today’s current ‘new country’. I’m excited to see where Two Ways Home take this sound as they progress. They are currently on tour, so make sure you check them out live if you get the chance.
