Laura Doggett at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre live review

Two months have passed by since Laura Doggett’s first official London gig at the House of St. Barnabas. Her talent is no surprise for those who were there that night, while one month ago ITV Broadchurch has given her career a considerable boost by featuring her song Old Faces in the new series trailers.
Opening with the gleaming SOHN-produced track Phoenix, accompanied by a keyboard player, cellist/bassist and percussionist, Doggett took the candlelight stage of the Sam Wanamaker theatre space inside the Globe starting an intimate performance that returned us a more mature slightly less shy Laura compared to her very first show. Still apparently vulnerable, her exquisitely discreet stage presence takes the audience by storm when she lets the richness of her thick voice do the job. Doggett’s warm austerity perfectly fits the army of elegant pop newcomers who – hopefully – will give mainstream pop a new direction of authenticity and less fake plastic icons.
Although her tracks often tackle juvenile subjects – let’s keep in mind she’s just only turned 21 – Doggett’s sinuous voice and genuineness on stage resembles a female version of Antony Hegarty, especially when she takes on emotional tracks like Lizard Lady.
Her career seems to be growing fast, so it would come as no surprise if we heard from her a lot in the next months.
