When music god David Bowie said some months ago that Lorde was the future of pop music he surely ignited a new trend of chilled out syntho-pop to follow. It comes as no surprise that once-underground pop artists like James Blake, Chvrches, London Grammar, Daughter and the very Lorde are paving the way to a more mature, cool and elegant popish music. Nottingham’s Indiana is quickly earning herself a spot in the list of those who seem destined to represent this new wave.
Her debut album No Romeo will only be out next January, but her fan base is growing fast in the underground scene, which led the British singer to tour the UK this fall, landing in London on November 4th. The show was opened by electronic music duo Shelter Point, who offered an enjoyable performance made of hypnotising sounds, pixelated beats and the singer’s astonishing vocals.
Once on stage, Indiana performed many of the songs from the upcoming album plus some of her famous hits Solo Dancing and the brand new single Heart On Fire. It’s clear to see that she was born to sing: her voice is naturally beautiful but most of all she is a skilled singer who knows how to blend her voice and deliver with true passion. It’s not just her voice that makes Indiana a good performer. She has the whole package as industry gurus say: she’s got the look, she can really sing and her music is a good mix of upbeat tunes and ballads.
Next year could definitely be Indiana’s year, so if you ever happen to be close enough to one of her live shows make sure you don’t miss her.
