Massive Attack, Grace Jones join OnBlackheath for a weekend of Music festival with a difference
OnBlackheath in partnership with John Lewis is a brand new music festival with a difference. An eclectic music line-up, immersive food experience, farmers market and much more will be on offer. OnBlackheath will be taking place over the weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September 2014 on the historic green space of London’s Blackheath Common SE3.
Performing on Saturday 13 September will be headliner Massive Attack, who are curating the main stage at the festival. Very special guest Grace Jones has already been announced with other artists including Aloe Blacc, Young Fathers and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard. The second stage which will be hosted by national radio DJ Gilles Peterson who will be bringing an array of live music and DJ sets to his ‘Worldwide Stage’. Confirmed to perform are BadBadNotGood, Hiatus Kaiyote, Anushka, Swindle (live), Zara McFarlane, Ibibio Sound Machine and DJ sets from Giles Peterson, Thris Tian (Boiler Room) and Bradley Zero.
Headlining the festival on the Sunday will be punk folk rocker Frank Tuner with support from Imelda May, Levellers, Athlete, Slowclub and Tom Hickcox. Leading independent label Heavenly Recordings will curate the second stage ‘Heavenly & Friends’ which will feature the likes of Radiophonic Workshop, TOY, Stealing Sheep, Charlie Boyer and the Voyeurs, The Wytches, Kid Wave, Steve Mason and Jagwar Ma. DJ sets will come from Don Letts, Heavenly Jukebox and Dave McClean (Django Django). The Village Stage will featuring The Chris Holland All-Star Band and very special guests including Glenn Tilbrook & Chris Difford, The Hi-Fi Sneakers and The Rude Vandals.
A whole host of great British chefs have been confirmed to demonstrate their skills and talents at the unique “Chef’s Club” and on the Food Stage (hosted by TV Chef John Quilter aka the Food Busker) at this year’s festival. Appearing are Michelin starred chefs Richard Bainbridge (Morston Hall), Simon Hulstone (The Elephant) and Adam Simmonds. Plus Jack Stein (executive chef of Stein Restaurant), Neil Rankin (Smokehouse), TV chef Valentine Warner, Punk chef Carl Clarke (Rock Lobsta), the glamorous Meringue Girls and Aussie chef Ross Shonhan (Bone Daddies / Flesh and Buns) will be gracing the stage and showing off their culinary skills to the crowds.
The chefs will not only be creating dishes with their preferred local produce on the Food Stage, but will also appear in the ‘Chef Club’ hosted by the Sunday Times’ Chef Gizzi Erskine. During the chef’s hour takeover in the Club, guests will have the oppurtunity to enjoy two dishes and accompanying drink showcasing each chef’s style and ethos.

Besides all the incredible music and amazing food, there’s also a whole host of interactive fun, games, workshops, entertainment and activities for kids (and adults) of all ages at the festival.
Learn hoola hooping with the unstoppable Marawa the Amazing and her team of hooping Majorettes; be captivated by The Flying Seagull Project and their ragtag team of travelling musical clowns; join the town crier at the Village Fete and get involved in sack races, egg and spoon races and tug-o-war; get your groove on with the Swing Patrol and their swing dance classes; re-mix Massive Attack tracks, learn beat-boxing and do graffiti t-shirt design workshops with the crew from the Urban Arts Experience… and a whole lot more. There’s definitely something to put a smile on everyone’s face!
As well as this eclectic music line-up and the immersive food experience, the festival will host an array of exciting attractions including a silent disco, street & fringe theatre, amazing street food, Farmers Market, mixology demonstrations and drinks from award winning local brewers.
