Do you like going to music festivals? Do you like holidaying in Italy? Why not combine the two. The first Umbria Rock Festival is taking place on 1st – 3rd August, 2014, with a mouth-watering line-up of rock, dance and indie bands from the UK. Locating this three-day festival just outside a very pretty walled town in central Italy is the icing on the cake. Massa Martana, which is 90 minutes from Rome, is surrounded by mountainous scenery. Trains or airport shuttle will get you there from the capital.
You can take your own tent or rent one at the festival. If you’re not that hardcore, however, hotels, apartments and B&Bs are in the area. But what of the music, I hear you cry. An impressive list below:
Day One: Basement Jaxx, Peter Hook (formerly of New Order and Joy Division) with his band, The Light
Day Two: Paul Weller, The Charlatans and The Courteeners
Day Three: The Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs and James
In addition to the music, you can also see award-winning films at the on-site cinema.
The lead singer of James, Tim Booth, says
“We are really looking forward to coming to play at Umbria Rock 2014. It’s a while since we’ve been in Italy, so this is a great opportunity to showcase our new record, as well as some of our fans’ favourites. It’s an honour to be part of this new festival, which I’m sure will be a massive success”
And here is what Yashwant Bajaj, the man behind the festival, has to say:
“The idea behind the festival is really an attempt to bridge the gap between Italians’ collective passion for music and art and the type of concert experiences currently available in Italy….we’re evoking 60s Italy and Britain for a reason. That was a time when both countries were at the centre of the universe in regards to culture and art, and I think Umbria Rock Festival is a way to breathe new life into that while uniting Italian natives, tourists and expats”.
Tickets are on sale now and include a three-day festival pass.
